We have joined the fight to advance the world's transition to sustainable energy by providing an interoperable integrated energy management system for residential homes. The residential home sector has been largely ignored in the fight so far, with the transportation and industrial sectors forging ahead. However, with the residential sector accounting for about 1/5th of total end-use sector consumption, it can no longer be left out of the battle against climate change.

The Ynventive™ software optimizes home energy sourcing and usage of your home's most energy-intensive appliances: HVAC modules, electric water heaters, lighting. Our system sits at the intersection of the home user, appliances, and utility companies. This enables the system to compute and balance household preferences and behaviors, monitor and predict the energy needs of devices, and shift energy loads to decrease consumption during peak demand or otherwise. It is a semi-autonomous system, making certain decisions by itself, and for others provides relevant and contextually meaningful information with the lens of reducing energy usage in the home.

The Situation

US Building Sector End-Use Energy Consumption

The residential sector was reported to consume a share of 21.1% of total US energy consumption by end-use sectors (EIA - Monthly Energy Review September 2020, Energy Consumption by Sector).

Although the residential sector is not the largest consuming end-use sector, it trails closely behind industrial (32.5%) and transportation (28.3%) consumption and is still a sizable section of total consumption.

In the push towards decarbonization, there have been many recent advances in both the industrial and transportation sectors. However, the residential sector has gone largely ignored.

Residential Energy Consumption

Of major end uses within the residential sector, space heating and cooling, water heating, and lighting jointly account for 48.7% of home electricity consumption (EIA - Annual Energy Outlook 2019).

Home IoT

The home IoT market is a popular space right now. Most companies in the industry are focused on user convenience by optimizing individual devices and without focus on home energy optimization.

These companies do offer products with extended capabilities, with the added possibility of remotely shutting off devices for energy savings (ie. thermostats, lights, etc.). However, they leave homeowners who have multiple smart devices with numerous apps and settings to configure and coordinate on their own.

So, we are creating a semi-autonomous optimization platform for your home's smart devices, starting with the energy-intensive appliances. Our solution is for any homeowner who is interested in:

Reducing their monthly energy bill
Eliminating wasteful energy use without impacting their comfort
Understanding the energy footprint of their home and what actions they can take to lower their energy consumption
Upgrading their home with energy-efficient alternatives but are unfamiliar with how to use them easily or effectively
